Fall Colors

Last weekend, even though I had much to do at that house. The spare room is still packed with all my boxes waiting to get unpacked, thank you cards are still waiting to be written and I have yet to plant 2 mums I bought over a month ago. But knowing that we only have a few days of really nice sunny fall weather left, I couldn't help but ask Brian if we take a drive to find some more covered bridges. There are enough rainy weekends coming up to stay home and do inside stuff. For the last year we have been trying to find all the covered bridges in Lane County. There were 3 bridges between here and the coast that we had yet to visit. So with cameras in hand we headed out to search for them. What an amazing day it was. The fall colors were utterly amazing.

The first bridge we went to was the Coyote Creek Bridge which is located south of Veneta.

After Veneta we turned north towards the other 2 bridges we were looking for. Along the way we stumbled across a small unnamed state park. Someday we will have to go back and explore where this bridge goes.

The next bridge we intended to visit was Lake Creek or Nelson Mtn Bridge, but we missed the turnoff so we continued on toward the Deadwood Bridge. This bridge was a little more challenging to find. But we eventually turned up a little country road that lead to the bridge.

This bridge was actually very unique, because the flooring is installed at a noticeable slant so that traffic rounding the corner would travel more safely. This was also the hardest bridge to photograph because the lighting was so dark.

I loved how the creek under the bridge meandered on by.

On the way back we finally found the Lake Creek Bridge, which is also know as the Nelson Mtn Bridge since it is located on Nelson Mountain Road.

My attempt at an artistic shot. This is a close up of the reflection of the leaves in the water.

Finally we stopped at Fern Lake Reservoir. We have tried stopping here previously but the park is always closed. We finally found a parking lot on the north side that was actually open. The reservoir is used for flood control in the winter and they are in the process of draining all the water out.

It was near sunset so I was able to get this cool silhouette of 2 people and a dog.

This area is normally under water during the summer months.

And of course I just couldn't resist getting pictures of the sunset.
