Wedding shoes and things such as that.......

I am doing really bad at keeping up to date on my blog postings. Between getting ready for the wedding, training a new person at work and preparing to move it seems like the day just escapes me.

But I continue to amaze myself at how I am managing to find some nice things for the wedding without have to pay a hefty price. I started out planning this wedding hoping to keep a tight reign on costs and outside of my wedding invitation disaster I have done pretty well.

My dress I was able to buy off the rack at a discount and then had a lady from our church who is a seamstress do the minor alterations. She did an amazing job and I am very pleased. She is even letting me borrow a petticoat she had so I don't have to spend unneeded money on something I would only wear once. So my petticoat will be my something borrowed.

Then for my veil, I had in my mind what I wanted it to look like and searched high and low for it. My mom wanted to make the veil portion, so I just needed to find the headpiece that it would attach to. Ughhh.... I wanted something simple and elegant and again not to expensive. I found exactly what I wanted at the local craft store. It is a beautiful headband covered in pearls. The veil is this pretty material that has a slight shimmer to it. The last time I went to get my hair cut I took it with me to show my hairdresser and was beaming with pride when another customer came up and said her daughter had exactly the same headpiece and veil for her wedding. I said that was interesting since my mom made mine. Turns out her daughter had purchased hers and while I paid under $10 for the whole thing, they had spent a hefty some. So that made me feel good that I can be frugal and at the same time still have something that looks elegant and expensive.

Then last weekend I was out shopping for interview clothes and just happened to find my wedding shoes on a clearance rack at a shoe store!!! The shoes have been the hardest for me to find. I don't wear heals anymore but since my dress can't be hemmed I needed something with some height. But most of the shoes I was finding either had no heal or very tall skinny heals. Ok, I have a hard enough time walking in tennis shoes, I can only imagine what I would be like in a big heavy dress and tall skinny shoes. So all I wanted where some nice shoes in beige or white with a comfortable wide heal. I could have taken a risk and just ordered some, but when it comes to shoes I prefer to try them on and walk in them a bit. I found exactly what I was looking for a Factory Brand Shoes and even better, they are a silver color that I can wear again with other things. So that is a huge plus in my book.

I can't wait to wear my whole ensemble and even more I am excited for Brian to see me all dressed up. I never in my life thought I wanted a wedding and while I am managing to keep a level head I am really looking forward to our wedding and being able to share the day with our families and friends.
